Former Blazers forward Rasheed Wallace has been linked to joining Penny Hardaway’s coaching staff as an assistant at the University of Memphis.
Wallace’s interest in coaching shouldn’t be a surprise as he was named the head coach at NC Better Best Academy in North Carolina. His hiring there was going to allow him to continue his coaching career.
The four-time All-Star was previously with Jordan High School and before that was a stop with the Pistons for a season.
It’s clear he has an interest and has been looking to find his footing in the industry. Just after it was announced he was coaching in North Carolina, he began to be in the rumor mill after the Blazers hired Chauncey Billups. Naturally, Wallace’s name emerged because of his connection to the team and Blazers.
With Billups’ staff taking form, it’s unclear if there was ever real interest in Wallace joining the team.
Being linked to Hardaway could be an ideal fit for Wallace and would allow him to reunite with Larry Brown, his former coach with the Pistons.
