The Sixers have reportedly hired Phil Beckner, Damian Lillard’s long-time trainer, as a consultant, per Fox Sports’ Yaron Weitzman.
Beckner’s hiring occurred in July and he’ll “assist the coaching staff in several areas,” per Weitzman.
Some of Beckner’s previous experience includes stops at Weber State, where he met Lillard, Boise State, Nebraska, and the G League’s Oklahoma City Blue.
According to his website Be Better Be Different, Beckner "also works with several high performing teams, organizations, and businesses, all to help enhance skills and maximize results".
A trade between the Blazers and Sixers was already rumored and speculated, with a deal possibly including Damian Lillard or CJ McCollum for Ben Simmons. With Beckner now in Philadelphia, the rumors may gain more traction despite any legitimate truth to it. It is important to note that Lillard has four years remaining on his current contract.
In July, Lillard publicly stated that rumors of him wanted to be traded are "not true" and that his "intentions and my heart has always been set on being in a Trail Blazers uniform for my entire career".
