Rick Carlisle stepped down as head coach of the Dallas Mavericks after 13 seasons, the team announced Thursday.

Carlisle, who led the Mavericks to an NBA championship in 2011, amassed a 555-478 regular-season record and 33-38 record in nine postseason appearances.

After the Mavericks were eliminated by the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round of the NBA playoffs last week, reports of friction between the Dallas front office and star guard Luka Doncic began to surface. The Mavs parted ways with longtime general manager Donnie Nelson on Wednesday after 24 seasons with the franchise.

If the Milwaukee Bucks decide to move on from Mike Budenholzer, Carlisle reportedly could be a candidate to replace him.
