NBA Twitter can all breathe a heavy sigh of relief.
The Trail Blazers announced Tuesday that Damian Lillard has sustained a right knee sprain and will miss Game 5 against the Los Angeles Lakers.
Lillard encountered the injury at the 7:14 mark of the third quarter of the Trail Blazers 135-115 Game 4 loss. After heading to the locker room, the five-time NBA All-Star returned to the court briefly before checking back out again. His initial MRI results were inconclusive on Monday evening.
While news that the Trail Blazers star will miss Wednesday’s game doesn’t bode well for Portland’s chances of coming back from a 3-1 deficit in the series, it is about as good of news as the Trail Blazers could get considering Lillard avoided a major injury.
Many fans took to social media to send well-wishes to the Bubble MVP.
Some chose to embrace Lillard’s absence, calling upon other Trail Blazers favorites to ball out.
Get well soon, Dame. Rip City has your back.
