The Blazers’ magic number is now one.
With a win over the Suns (48-21), Portland will clinch their eighth straight playoff berth!
A win tonight also means the team, currently the No. 5 seed, will likely face the Nuggets or Clippers in the first-round.
If Portland (41-29) cannot claim victory over the No. 2 team in the Western Conference, their next opportunity to clinch will come on Sunday against the Nuggets, which could turn out to be their first round opponent.
After a season-high losing streak of four games, the Blazers have hit their stride when they needed it most. They currently boast the league’s longest win-streak at five games and are 9-1 in their last 10 games.
Phoenix leads the season series 2-0, which includes a 32-point win in their first meeting back in February.
Devin Booker, Phoenix’s leading scorer this season, is averaging 34.5 points on 64% shooting against Portland and in their last meeting scored 18 of his 35 points against Derrick Jones Jr., his primary defender that night.
In a game that could figure to be high-scoring and entertaining, with Damian Lillard averaging 32.8 points over his last five, the playoff implications are also too big.
Both teams will be at full strength heading into Thursday night's game.
The game will tip-off at 7:00 pm on NBCSNW, the official TV network of the Portland Trail Blazers.
