Jusuf Nurkic reaches out to Dak Prescott after devastating injury

If anyone knows what Dak Prescott is feeling right now, it’s Jusuf Nurkic.

Prescott’s 2020 NFL campaign came to an abrupt halt when he suffered a horrific injury against the NFC East New York Giants. The two-time Pro Bowler has since undergone surgery to repair a compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle, and his timetable to recover is expected to be four to six months.

Like Prescott, Nurkic suffered a jarring season-ending leg injury that required surgery and a lengthy rehab process leading up to his return to the court. He feels for the Cowboys star and can relate to what he's going through.

“Injury sucks @dak if you need anything, I’m here for you. U coming back better #0doubt,” Bosnian Beast said in his post.

Nurkic suffered a compound fracture of his tibia and fibula last March during the Trail Blazers second overtime vs. the Brooklyn Nets. His road to recovery took over 12 grueling months to complete, and he admittedly lost count of how many times he watched the injury.

Many forget the mental side of overcoming an injury can be far more challenging than the physical side.

“I’ve probably watched it a thousand times now,” Nurk said. “And every time, I feel the same way: I couldn’t do anything differently. I’ve done that move probably a million times in my career.”

Days leading up to Nurkic's impending return in March, the NBA shuttered due to the coronavirus pandemic. In late July, Bosnian Beast suited up inside the NBA bubble and took the court for the Portland Trail Blazers 17 months after breaking his leg.

It was a much-welcomed return for Nurk, who added 18 points, 9 rebounds, five assists and six blocks for Portland in the 140-135 overtime victory over Memphis.

"I'm just glad we won the damn game, man," Nurkic said. "I've been preparing for this moment for the last 16 months."

Nurkic knows Dak will win the “damn game,” too, because coming back from a gruesome injury like the one these two pros suffered means you’ve already won.
