Trail Blazers Pregame Notebook: Anfernee Simons OUT, Rodney Hood limited vs. Jazz

Trail Blazers

It's opening night!

The Trail Blazers and Jazz tip-off from Moda Center at 7:00pm PST on NBCSNW, the official network of the Blazers.

Before the game tipped, Portland’s head coach Terry Stotts gave an update on his lineup. Anfernee Simons, who was initially listed as questionable with a left hamstring strain, is officially OUT for Wednesday’s contest.

Simons suffered the hamstring injury in the second half of Portland’s first preseason game back on Dec. 11 agaisnt the Sacramento Kings. He missed the team's final three preseason games, but was able to practice this week.

Coach Stotts also added that Rodney Hood “will be limited.” Stotts wouldn’t go into details or give the total minutes that they expect to restrict Hood to in the home opener, but in the final exhibition game, Hood played 20 minutes and had played 8-12 minutes prior to last Friday’s game. Hood is returning this season following a torn Achilles that he suffered last Dec.

The Trail Blazers are scheduled to face the Rockets on Saturday, Dec. 26.

However, now that Wednesday’s Rockets and Thunder game was postponed due to Houston not having enough eligible players because of COVID-19 contract tracing protocols, that game may be in doubt.

Stotts addressed that unfortunate news of Houston and Oklahoma City not playing tonight.

I’m disappointed that obviously it was postponed. I think everybody kind of knew that this would probably happen at some point. It’s disappointing that it happened opening night, but I think it makes everybody aware of how real this is.
