Trail Blazers shooting guard CJ McCollum will be re-evaluated in a week

As the Portland Trail Blazers continue to deal with injury woes, Portland hosts the 7-6 San Antonio Spurs in a MLK Jr. matinee matchup.

Ahead of Monday's game, Trail Blazers head coach Terry Stotts revealed his starting lineup with CJ McCollum out for the foreseeable future with a left foot sprain.

“CJ will be re-evaluated in a week,” Coach Stotts said. “Rodney [Hood] will be starting.”

Losing McCollum and starting center Jusuf Nurkic (right wrist fracture) in the same week is an obvious blow to the Blazers. This season, McCollum had elevated his game to a new level.  Through 12 and a half games, the Trail Blazers starting shooting guard averaged 26.7 points, 5.0 assists, and 3.9 rebounds.

Coach Stotts explained what went into his decision to start Hood over Gary Trent Jr. and Anfernee Simons.

I like Gary’s scoring off the bench. Rodney’s been in that position before. Anfernee is our backup point guard so I didn't want to use his minutes in the starting lineup.

Hood, who returned this season after tearing his left Achilles last Dec., is averaging 13.1 minutes off the bench.

As for the Spurs, San Antonio will be without Keita Bates-Diop (upper respiratory infection), Drew Eubanks (health and safety protocols), Luka Samanic (sore throat), Quinndary Weatherspoon (left knee; surgery) and Derrick White (left second toe; fracture).

Portland and San Antonio tip-off at noon PST on NBCSNW, the official network of the Portland Trail Blazers.
