Update at 12:30p.m. PST -- The NBA has officially announced that the game is postponed because of Memphis' ongoing contact tracing. The Grizzlies would not have the minimum requirement of eight eligible players to play a game.
The Trail Blazers were set to tip-off two straight games against the Memphis Grizzlies beginning with a Wednesday night matchup.
But due to contact tracing, Wednesday’s game has been postponed, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Per the report, it is the Grizzlies who are dealing with the contact tracing.
Grizzlies big man Jonas Valanciunas was sidelined due to NBA’s health and safety protocols on Sunday, Jan. 17.
This is the second time this year Valanciunas has been out due to health and safety protocols. He was pulled out of a Jan. 8 game at halftime but tested negative for COVID-19. He then rejoined the team one day later.
The Trail Blazers Jan. 20 game against the Grizzlies was slated to be the first of three meetings between Portland and Memphis this season with the second immediately following on Jan. 22.
The third matchup is scheduled for the Second Half of the season.
The Trail Blazers and Grizzlies split the season series in 2019-20, 1-1. The two teams have split each of the past three seasons.
