This is one of the most unusual reasons an athlete failed a drug test.

Estonian swimmer Anita Stepanenko tested positive for the anabolic steroid stanozolol in May, according to swimming’s governing body FINA.

In a later hearing, it was determined Stepanenko’s coach, Nikolai Borzov, “administered the prohibited substance in a drink to the athlete without notifying the swimmer about it.”

Stepanenko was given a one-year suspension by an Estonian anti-doping panel. Borzov was banned for life.
