Three-time Tour de France winner Greg LeMond is opposed to the possibility of Lance Armstrong‘s lifetime ban being reduced.

“If there’s anybody who deserves a ban, it’s this guy,” LeMond said in Australia on Thursday, according to reports. “I believe everyone deserves a second chance, but it’s not like he was positive one time and admitted it and said he’s sorry. This is repeated cover up ... there’s nothing like it in the history of cycling.”

LeMond and Armstrong’s relationship has been filled with animosity since 2001, when Armstrong, after beating testicular cancer, won his third of seven straight Tour de France titles that would be stripped in 2012.

It was then when LeMond said, “If Lance is clean, it is the greatest comeback in the history of sports. If he isn’t, it would be the greatest fraud.”

At different points over the last two years, officials from the International Cycling Union, the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency and the World Anti-Doping Agency said Armstrong’s ban could be reduced based on how he cooperates with anti-doping officials but didn’t say it was likely.

LeMond said he hasn’t had any relationship with Armstrong since 2001, but he would be open to changing that.

“I would be willing to talk to him under certain circumstances,” LeMond reportedly said Thursday.

Armstrong said he tried to apologize to LeMond two years ago, but LeMond wouldn’t take his call, according to VeloNews.
