Heidi Kloser breaks leg, insists on attending Olympic Ceremony

Moguls skier Heidi Kloser’s Olympic run ended right before it was set to begin, as she suffered a broken right leg on Thursday, according to the Associated Press. She didn’t let that keep her from attending the Olympic Ceremony, however.

Kloser, 21, tore her ACL and broke her femur crashing during a training run on Thursday. The injury came just before the event’s first qualifying run. Sochi was going to represent her Olympic debut.

Kloser remarked that the moguls course was challenging but also believed that conditions had improved when asked on Wednesday.

“The course is pretty safe now,” Kloser said then. “The first day it was a little bit rough because no one had skied it and we were worried about the bottom of the course being more dangerous.”

The injury came toward the end of her run, so it’s possible that the bottom of the course had something to do with Kloser’s unfortunate injury.

On the bright side, Kloser
took to Twitter to confirm that she’s still attending the Olympic Ceremony:

Heading to Opening Ceremonies! Excited that I will still get to walk! #Olympics #TeamUSA #Sochi2014 #ice

Slopestyle snowboarded Ty Walker was similarly determined to be a part of the Opening Ceremony, as she’ll be walking on crutches:
