London’s Olympic Park Orbit to turn gold if England wins World Cup

Orbit

The Orbit, one of the defining structures of the London Olympics, will be turned gold should England win the World Cup, according to British reports.

The Orbit’s PR team said it “explored a number of options for how to turn the sculpture gold, and they will reveal all if and when England win the cup,” according to the Telegraph.

This is very unlikely to happen, since England hasn’t won the World Cup since 1966, a 48-year span that’s seen it advance past the quarterfinals just once.

England is also in a very tough group, with 2006 World Cup winner Italy and 2010 semifinalist Uruguay.

One member of Great Britain’s 2012 Olympic soccer team that made the quarterfinals is on England’s World Cup squad. That’s Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge.
