The all-new Olympic figure skating team event got underway yesterday with the men’s and pairs’ short programs. Team USA’s Marissa Castelli and Simon Shnapir finished fifth in the pairs.

But leading up to their first official Olympic competition, the two-time reigning national champions have been savoring the overall experience in Sochi. And that’s included a few classic “starstruck” moments.

“When we first got here there was definitely some geeking out,” Castelli said earlier this week to NBCOlympics.com’s Nick McCarvel. “I kept pointing people out to our coach being like, ‘Bobby, oh my god! There’s Lolo Jones!’

“We’re making a check list. We’re going through Team USA and starring everyone that we’ve met. It’s top secret.”
