Mikaela Shiffrin’s gold in slalom draws Twitter praise
While Mikaela Shiffrin entered the women’s slalom as a favorite, winning gold is easier said than done. Especially with a field that included multiple gold medalists such as Slovenia’s Tina Maze and Germany’s Maria Hoefl-Riesch. Especially as an 18-year-old.
She made it happen on Friday and her peers took to Twitter to praise her strong work. Here are some of the highlights.
Mikaela Shiffrin wins gold thanks to an insane mid-run recovery. Not sure any other woman in the field stays on her skis in that situation— Alex Goldberger (@alexgoldberger) February 21, 2014
Such uncommon poise. Mikaela Shiffrin who won gold in the slalom at her 1st world champs does the same at her 1st Olympics. Just 18— Christopher Clarey 🇺🇸 🇫🇷 🇪🇸 (@christophclarey) February 21, 2014
As great as the present clearly is, the future is indeed quite bright. In fact, the 18-year-old seems primed to add another discipline to her regimen.
