Oscar Pistorius’ murder trial resumes with two days of closing arguments Thursday and Friday following nearly a month-long break.

After the prosecution and defense make their final statements, judge Thokozile Masipa is expected to adjourn the trial again to deliberate with her two assessors and decide the verdict.

Reports vary on the length of the expected break, from one week to over a month.

There is no trial by jury in South Africa.

Pistorius, the first double amputee to run in the Olympics in 2012, shot four times through a locked door in his Pretoria home bathroom on Valentine’s Day 2013, hitting and killing girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp inside. Pistorius said he thought Steenkamp was an intruder.

He faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted of premeditated murder. If found not guilty of premeditated murder, Pistorius could be convicted of culpable homicide, South Africa’s version of manslaughter for negligent killing.

The trial was initially set for March 3-20.
