Shani Davis eyes history in Sochi

James OBrien

Shani Davis has made speedskating and Olympic history before, but he hopes to reach even more impressive milestones during the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Davis aims for a third consecutive gold at the 1000m, which would make him the first American to win gold at the same event for three straight Olympics (although Shaun White could accomplish the same feat at the snowboarding halfpipe).

He also hopes to gain an elusive gold in the 1500m, an event he deems “the race of kings.” The 31-year-old earned silver medals in Vancouver and Torino.

Even before Davis competes in the 2014 Olympics, he’s already considered one of the greatest Winter Olympians ever. Adding to his list of medals in 2014 would only further cement that, but for Davis, there’s also some unfinished business.
