This time, her tires cooperated.

American triathlete Gwen Jorgensen saw her 2012 Olympics cut short by cut rubber, but she rose to the head of the field on her bike before racing past 2012 gold medalist Nicola Spirig Hug on the final run to win gold.

Jorgensen, 30, is an Olympic triathlon champion with a time of 1:56:16, the first gold winner in U.S. history.

Spirig Hug took silver, while Great Britain’s Vicky Holland edged teammate Non Stanford by three seconds for bronze.
