Vladimir Putin to gold medalist Adelina Sotnikova: ‘the whole Russia is proud of you’

Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Adelina Sotnikova for becoming the first Russian or Soviet to win gold in women’s figuring skating, as the Associated Press reports.

Putin said via the Kremlin’s website that Sotnkiova “won and conquered the height that our figure skating team has been working for long years ... the whole Russia is proud of you.”

Sotnikova, 17, took home Russia’s third figure skating medal of this Olympics, as they also won team and pairs gold.

She had her own unique way with words following that gold performance, saying “I win.”
