With Argentina not progressing out of the group stage in the men’s soccer tournament, there won’t be a battle between Argentina and bitter rivals Brazil on the pitch. But there will be one on the basketball court, as the two teams are both in Group B of the men’s tournament.
And it’s a big game for both, with Argentina in second place on five points and Brazil fifth on four points. Only the top four teams in each group get out of group play, which makes games such as this one incredibly important. Argentina will look to rebound from a tough loss to Lithuania, and Brazil is in a similar position after falling to Croatia. Also of note in Group B is first-place Lithuania taking on Spain, with the runners-up of the last two Olympic tournaments finally getting their first win of these Games Thursday night against China.

On the women’s side they’re completing group play, with first-place Australia playing Belarus in a game the latter needs if they’re to have a shot at getting out of the group stage. Belarus currently sits fifth in the group on five points, so they’ll need a positive result and some help to go through. Brazil’s in an even tougher spot, as they’re sixth on four points going into their group play finale against Turkey.
The games begin at 11:15 a.m., with that Argentina vs. Brazil game set for a 1:15 p.m. tip-off.
