New Jersey bar to give away free beer when Ben Simmons hits first three-pointer

Sixers fans were already going to go wild when Ben Simmons hits his first regular season three pointer, but a Philadelphia area bar and brewery wants to make the occasion an even a bigger treat.

Double Nickel Brewing Co., right across the bridge in Pennsauken, New Jersey and one of their partner bars, Keg & Kitchen in Haddon Township, have a pretty awesome FREE BEER promotion for when Simmons hits that first three ball.

We spoke with Double Nickel’s NJ Sales Manager Brian Needham about the sweet deal. Turns out they're all big Philly sports fans and their partner Matt who manages Keg & Kitchen wanted to do something fun for Ben's first three.

"An idea came up and we just kept adding to it," Needham told me. "It was sort of a joke at first but then we were like, 'Wait a minute, we should definitely do this and go all out.'"

"It kind of snowballed, 'let me see if i can get a little mini fridge and do a spoof of what Bud Light did with the Browns?!' And then we did."

The good news for those in the area is you don't technically have to be in Keg & Kitchen the exact second Ben hits a three.

"You just have to get there soon after, come in and join the celebration," Needham said.

The mini fridge contains Double Nickels' core series of beers including their flagship Vienna Lager, a Pilsner, a Golden Ale, an IPA, and a session. You can also get a draft if you want.

This isn't the first free-beer-for-sports-thing-happening situation. Sports and beer fans alike may remember the story Needham mentioned above when Bud Light placed locked beer fridges throughout the city of Cleveland that were to be opened when the Browns won it’s first game last season. And then there was also a Bud Light-Eagles Super Bowl tie in thanks to Lane Johnson. A nice prize, for sure, but not as tasty as a Double Nickel beer.

Sixers fans obviously remember when Simmons hit a three during a preseason game a few weeks ago. That was a momentous occasion to be remembered forever. But it wasn't in the regular season. And no free beer was given away.

Ben did not attempt a three pointer in Wednesday night's season-opening victory over the Boston Celtics but the odds of him doing so prior to tip weren't outrageous, in the 7:1 range.

So it's bound to happen sooner or later. Will you be at Keg & Kitchen to get a free beer when it does?
