T.J. McConnell’s improbable run with the Sixers will come to an end.
The free agent point guard will sign with the Indiana Pacers for two years and $7 million, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
McConnell joined the Sixers during “The Process” as an undrafted rookie out of Arizona. He was a long shot to make the team back in 2015, but he did and has now spent four years in the NBA. His role with the Sixers fluctuated with the upheaval of the team’s roster. During the postseason, Jimmy Butler assumed backup point guard duties. His role with the Pacers seems murky with their free agent activity and current roster.

McConnell had become a fan favorite thanks to his relentless style of play and ability to get under his opponent’s skin. He also emerged as a leader and has earned the respect of his teammates, new and old, and will be missed in the locker room. His size and lack of elite athleticism have always limited him, but his dogged effort and IQ make him worthy of an NBA roster spot.
As for the Sixers, they don't seem to have a backup point guard and little money to spend. Combo guard Shake Milton was signed to a four-year deal Tuesday. There's a possibility they could sign someone on a veteran minimum deal.
