Report: Sixers among potential future destinations for Pelicans' Anthony Davis

So you’re saying there’s a chance?

The Sixers already have a budding young core, but the team is apparently on the mind of at least one NBA superstar. Per Chris Sheridan of Get More Sports, New Orleans Pelicans big man Anthony Davis has the Sixers among a group of teams he is considering for the future.

“A source with intimate knowledge of the inner workings of the NBA told Get More Sports that Davis is considering five teams in the near and distant future: The Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers, New Orleans Pelicans, New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers,” Sheridan said.

That’s an interesting group of teams, mainly because they’re primarily storied franchises with cache, cap space and rosters on the rise.

For Sixers fans, we can already see you salivating over a potential pairing of five-time All-Star Davis and Joel Embiid. Can you imagine those two dominating inside and out with Ben Simmons feeding them pinpoint passes all game long?

Don’t even get us started on the defensive end. Davis, a three-time All-Defensive team selection and three-time blocks leader, along with Embiid would smother opponents from the opening tip. But the Sixers’ best defensive performance would be keeping Davis away from those other teams, mainly the rival Celtics and Knicks.

However, there’s significant chatter that Davis, who has two more years left on his contract and then a player option for 2020-21, already has his sights set on Hollywood. He ditched his agent last month in favor of Klutch Sports’ Rich Paul, also LeBron James’ representative. Plus, Davis has always admitted James was his favorite player and even wears No. 23 because of him.

To his credit, the career 23.4 point per game scorer and 10.3 rebounder, Davis, has tried to shut all of that speculation down and focus on the Pelicans’ upcoming season.

“But in my head, like I said, I don't pay attention to it,” Davis said in a recent interview with ESPN’s Rachel Nichols. “And I keep going back to it, but it's the truth, I look at what I have now, and what I can do now. And that's helping my team win. You can't listen to what somebody else is saying or listen to all the white noise or, 'AD's going here, he's going here, he's going here.’”

I hate to break it to you AD, but the rumors won’t stop until you’re in a different uniform or you re-sign with the Pelicans. For now, the basketball world will just have to sit back and wait.
