BOX SCORE

The Sixers and Wizards looked like they should be playing in different leagues Tuesday night.

For the second time this season, the Sixers blew out Washington, 132-115, at the Wells Fargo Center. The Wizards made the final score more respectable in garbage time.

The Sixers got two starters back  — Jimmy Butler and Wilson Chandler returned after missing the past two games with an upper respiratory infection — but they lost one, as JJ Redick missed the game with lower-back tightness. Furkan Korkmaz started in Redick’s place.

Landry Shamet had a career-high 29 points for the Sixers (27-14), who have won four straight games.

The two teams will meet again Wednesday night in Washington (7 p.m./NBCSP).

• Just as he did in the Sixers’ win over the Mavs on Saturday, Ben Simmons took a fadeaway jumper on the first possession. This time, he missed.

Simmons doesn’t need a jumper against teams like the Wizards. He easily had his way in transition and in the post, notching 17 points, nine assists and five rebounds.

• Butler, who has tended to start slow, helped the Sixers weather an early surge from the Wizards, who took a 14-4 lead.

He made his first six shots Tuesday. Butler backed down Bradley Beal in the post; attacked a closeout near the end of the shot clock and scored at the rim, nailed a three-pointer from the right wing; converted a couple of easy dunks, one after poking away a steal; rose up and finished a T.J. McConnell lob with his left hand.

Butler finished with 20 points on 8 for 9 shooting. With Butler on the floor, the Sixers are 16-6.

• Shamet and the Sixers’ bench helped key the Sixers’ overwhelming second-quarter run.

Shamet, who hadn’t scored in double figures since Dec. 19 vs. the Knicks, then got very, very hot late in the third quarter.

He shot 8 for 14 from three-point range. The rookie can flat-out shoot.

• It felt like the Wizards needed Beal to score 40 points to have a chance to win.

Beal did his best, with 28 points on 11 for 18 shooting, but he didn’t have much support.

Though Butler was the primary defender on Beal, Shamet did a nice job sliding his feet and sticking with Beal on a couple of occasions.

• Joel Embiid wasn’t the main star of the show, yet he still posted another double-double, his 35th of the season, with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

He’s 10 for 22 from three-point range in his last six games.

• Hustle and grit can only do so much against the elite athletes in the NBA, but McConnell brings it every day.

His dogged backcourt defense got the Sixers a basket in the second quarter.

At one point, McConnell kept a possession alive by diving on the floor to retrieve a loose ball.

Sure, McConnell has his deficiencies — his range rarely extends to the three-point line and his size and lack of lateral quickness limit him defensively.

But there’s no question McConnell is a valuable piece for the Sixers.

He entered Tuesday’s game with the best mid-range field goal percentage (56.5 percent) in the NBA among players with at least 50 attempts.

• After scoring 33 points in the Delaware Blue Coats’ 119-108 win over Toronto 905 in the afternoon, Shake Milton became the 25th player to play in a G-League game and an NBA game in the same day.

Milton had four points, four rebounds and three assists and committed his first NBA turnover after 68 minutes.

Haywood Highsmith then became the 26th player to pull double duty, making his NBA debut in the fourth quarter. Highsmith drained his first NBA shot, a three-pointer from the left wing.

• Eagles Michael Bennett, Alshon Jeffery and Nate Sudfeld were in attendance. Bennett was in full Sixers gear.

Late in the second quarter, a highly enthusiastic fan yelled during a lull in the action, “Michael Bennett! Go Birds! Let’s go!”

Bennett calmly raised his hand to acknowledge the support.

Jeffery and Sudfeld received loud cheers when they left in the fourth quarter.
