That criticism led to Hinkie once saying:
"Some would have us go out and buy apples. But we want to build the whole orchard. ... [And] you don't get to the moon by climbing a tree."
The last sentence is the one that stuck with folks — you don't get to the moon by climbing a tree. On top of being a shrewd deal-maker, Ol' Sam was quite the philosopher.
