Tobias Harris' new jersey number shows respect for a lost friend

Tobias Harris joined the 76ers midseason and chose to wear No. 33 in Philadelphia after previously rocking No. 34 with the Los Angeles Clippers.

There was a certain round mound who wore 34 in Philly, so Tobi needed to mix it up.

After a few months of the offseason and a new long-term contract, Tobi has opted to switch up his jersey number yet again.

In an Instagram story prior to his big press conference on Friday morning, Harris showed off No. 12 on his locker in Camden as well as on a new jersey. It included the message "RIP Morgan."

Harris has worn the No. 12 before during his stint with the Orlando Magic. It’s a number that has meaning to him and shows respect for his childhood friend and AAU teammate, Morgan Childs, who died after a battle with leukemia. No. 12 was always Childs' number. From Sixers.com:

“When [Harris and Childs] were kids, they used to brag a lot how they were going play in the NBA,” said Torrel Harris, who coached the boys’ AAU squad. “I used to mess with them, ‘You all have to do a whole lot to play in the NBA!’

“Morgan passed away, and Tobias put him on his shoulder, and said, ‘I‘m going to carry out that dream.’”

So No. 12 will be back on the court in Philly this season. Expect big things.
