Delaware falls to 6th straight loss

ELON, N.C. — Tyler Seibring scored 24 points, Dainan Swoope added 22 and Elon handed Delaware its sixth-straight loss 89-76 on Saturday night.

Dmitri Thompson added 13 points for the Phoenix (14-11, 6-6 Colonial Athletic Association), who let a 17-point lead in the second half slip to five with 3 1/2 minutes to go.

After Jacob Cushing hit back-to-back 3s to bring the Blue Hens (11-14, 4-8) within 76-71, Swoope scored four of the next six that started a clinching 10-2 run. Delaware missed four straight shots.

Swoope, who surpassed 1,000 points for his career, and Seibring, combined for eight 3s. Seibring had eight rebounds and Swoope seven assists.

Ryan Allen had 26 points for the Blue Hens and Cushing added 19, both career highs.

Elon shot 54 percent from the field, going 13 of 25 from distance, and had 23 assists on 31 baskets. Delaware was 5 of 16 behind the arc, shooting 43 percent overall.

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — Ryan Daly scored 23 points, Eric Carter added 20 and 11 rebounds and No. 7 seed Delaware held off 10th-seeded Elon 86-79 Saturday night in the opening round of the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament.

Delaware (14-18) will play No. 2 seed Northeastern (21-9) in a Sunday quarterfinal.

Dmitri Thompson scored 22 of his 27 points in the second half and pulled Elon to within 82-77 with his fourth 3-pointer with 37 seconds left. Thompson missed another trey eight seconds later and Delaware made 4 of 6 free throws to hold on.

The Blue Hens shot 57 percent for the game (59 in the second half) and outscored Elon 44-32 in the paint. Ryan Allen added 14 points and Anthony Mosely 13.

Tyler Seibring and Steven Santa Ana each scored 15 for Elon (14-18).

NEWARK, Del. — Darian Bryant hit a layup and knocked down a 3 in the final minutes and Delaware closed on a 9-1 run to earn a 68-66 win over James Madison Saturday afternoon.

All 10 teams in the Colonial Athletic Association advance to the conference tournament beginning Saturday in North Charleston, South Carolina.

The Blue Hens bounced back after having a 34-point lead evaporate in an 85-84 loss to Drexel Thursday in an NCAA record comeback. Delaware will face the Dragons in a first-round tournament game Saturday.

Ryan Daly led five players into double-figure scoring for Delaware (13-18, 6-12) with 14 points. Bryant added 13 and Eric Carter, Anthony Mosley and Ryan Allen each added 11.

Matt Lewis scored 23 points to lead James Madison (9-21, 5-12). Darius Banks added 20 points. The Dukes, the No. 10 seed, face Elon in a first-round tournament game Saturday.
