With a loss to the Cowboys on Sunday afternoon, the Eagles weren’t just eliminated from playoff contention.
They also solidified a top-10 pick.
Right now, the Eagles have the No. 6 pick in the draft. They can end up as high as No. 3 or as low as No. 10.
The best draft pick the Eagles could have gotten if they won the division was No. 19.
Here’s an update of the draft order, via Tankathon:
The Eagles are tied with the Bengals for the No. 5 draft pick, but right now the Bengals own the tie-breaker on common opponents. The Eagles and Bengals cancel out on the head-to-head matchup and strength of schedule but the Bengals are 1-7 against common opponents and the Eagles are 2-6.
So we’ll see how this shakes out.
Week 17 will determine where the Eagles will pick in the 2021 draft. They can get as high as No. 3 or as low as No. 10.
The Eagles could move up to the No. 3 pick if they lose next week and if the three teams ahead of them pull off wins.
Here are the three teams ahead of them and who they play next weekend:
3. Houston (belongs to Miami): 4-11 — (vs. Tennessee 10-4)
4. Atlanta: 4-11 — (at Tampa Bay 10-5)
5. Cincinnati: 4-10-1 — (vs. Baltimore 10-5)
It’s a tough ask for the Texans, Falcons or Bengals to pull off wins against double-digit-win teams next week but it’s possible.
There are four teams with 5-10 records right behind the Eagles right now. So if the Eagles win next week, those teams could end up jumping them in the order.
7. Detroit 5-10 — (vs. Minnesota 6-9)
8. New York Giants 5-10 — (vs. Dallas 6-9)
9. Carolina 5-10 — (vs. New Orleans 11-4)
10. Denver 5-10 — (vs. Las Vegas 7-8)
So if you want the Eagles to keep the highest draft spot possible, you should root for those four teams to win next week.
Either way, this will be their first top-10 pick since 2016 when they drafted Carson Wentz and their first top-10 pick without a trade since they took Lane Johnson at No. 4 back in 2013.
