Bryce Harper returns to Washington Tuesday, this time as a member of the Phillies after playing the first 927 games of his career with the Nationals.

Harper jumping from the Nationals to the Phillies got us thinking of the most prominent athletes who’ve played in both Philly and D.C.

Who didn’t make the cut? Manute Bol and Jerry Stackhouse from the 76ers, Keith Jones and Donald Brashear from the Flyers, Ben Revere and Del Unser from the Phillies and Brian Mitchell and Irving Fryar from the Eagles. Among others.

Craig Berube played 323 games with the Flyers and 419 games with the Caps, the only player in history to play at least 300 games with both teams. Berube spent his first five seasons — 1986-87 through 1990-91 — with the Flyers and after a brief layover in Calgary he spent 1993-94 through late 1998-99 with the Caps before returning to Philly through the end of the 1999-00 season. He returned to the Caps for a second stint in 2000 before returning to Calgary — his third team with two stints. Berube finished his 17-year career with 61 goals, 98 assists and 3,149 penalty minutes, seventh-most in NHL history.

When he signed a 13-year, $330 million contract with the Phillies on March 2, Bryce Harper instantly became the most prominent athlete ever to play in both Philly and Washington. In seven years with the Nationals, Harper made six All-Star teams, won a Rookie of the Year and an MVP and hit 184 homers. All before his 26th birthday. Harper hit 24 homers against the Phillies, one behind the Braves for his most against a single opponent. In his first three games with the Phillies, he has two HRs and has led the Phils to a 3-0 record.

DeSean Jackson spent his first six years with the Eagles and the next three with the Redskins, and he made his mark on both teams, with three 1,000-yard seasons in Philly and two more in Washington. He led the NFL in yards per catch twice with the Eagles and once with the Redskins, and after two years in Tampa — during which he became the only player in NFL history to lead the league in yards per catch for three teams — he’s back in Philly. Jackson has the second-most 50-yard TDs in NFL history (behind Jerry Rice) and his 17.4 average is sixth-highest in NFL history among players with 10,000 receiving yards.

When the Eagles traded Donovan McNabb to the Redskins, he was coming off a 10-win Pro Bowl season. But the Eagles sensed that the end was near, and it was. After 11 seasons with the Eagles that included six Pro Bowls, seven playoff appearances and a 92-49-1 record, McNabb lasted just 13 games in Washington, going 5-8 with more interceptions (15) than touchdowns (14) for the only time in his career. After going 1-5 with the Vikings in 2011, McNabb was released before the end of the season, less than two years after leading the Eagles to the playoffs.

Sonny Jurgensen spent his first seven years with the Eagles, but only started four games his first four seasons and didn’t get a chance to become a full-time starter until Norm Van Brocklin retired after the 1960 NFL Championship season. In 1961, Jurgensen made first-team all-pro and led the Eagles to a 10-4 record, leading the NFL with 32 touchdowns — a franchise record until Carson Wentz threw 33 in 13 games in 2017. He was traded to the Redskins in 1964 in the Norm Snead deal and spent 11 years in Washington, going 52-51-5 and leading the NFL in passing yards three times. Despite a career losing record and no postseason wins, Jurgensen is in the Hall of Fame.

Moses Malone was only with the Sixers for four years, but he sure made an impact, averaging 21.0 points and 12.0 rebounds and making four All-Star teams, leading the Sixers to the playoffs all four years and the NBA title in 1983. Only Malone and Wilt Chamberlain averaged 20 and 12 in their 76ers career (Joel Embiid is at 24.1 and 11.4). Malone spent just two years with the Bullets, making two more All-Star teams and averaging 22.2 and 11.2. Malone, who spent time with nine ABA and NBA franchises in his 21-year Hall of Fame career, returned to Philly in 1994 as a part-time player and averaged 5.3 points and 4.1 rebounds at 38 years old.

Jonathan Papelbon spent most of his career — the first seven years — with the Red Sox, but he had interesting stints with both the Phillies and Nationals. He saved 123 games for the Phillies from 2012 through mid-2015, when he was traded to Washington in a deadline move for Nick Pivetta. He only pitched in 59 games for the Nationals but is best-known for his 2015 dugout fight with Bryce Harper one day after the Nationals were eliminated from postseason contention. Papelbon’s 2.31 ERA is fourth-lowest in Phillies history among pitchers who threw at least 200 innings, behind Hall of Famer Grover Cleveland Alexander and two other turn-of-the-century hurlers.

Jeremiah Trotter was only 24 after his fourth season with the Eagles, but he was already a two-time Pro Bowler and a first-team all-pro. But after a contract impasse following the 2001 season, he signed a seven-year, $49 million deal with the Redskins, the Eagles’ NFC East rivals. But he never fit in with the Skins and after the Skins cut him two years later he returned to Philly, making two more Pro Bowls and starring on the 2004 Super Bowl team after beginning the season as a special teamer. The Eagles released Trotter after the 2006 season and after half a season with the Bucs in 2007 he retired. But when the Eagles lost Omar Gaither and Stewart Bradley to injuries in 2009, he came out of retirement in 2009 and played the final 13 games of his career in an Eagles uniform.

Jayson Werth began his career with the Blue Jays and Dodgers, but he spent four years with the Phillies before signing with the Nationals, where he played the final seven years of his career. Werth is the only person to play at least 500 games with both the Phillies and Nationals. He hit 95 homers in 543 games with the Phillies and had 109 dingers in 808 games with Washington. Werth played 16 years and made his only All-Star team in 2009 with the Phillies, when he hit .268 with an .879 OPS and a career-high 99 RBIs for the World Series-bound N.L. East champs.

Jeff Ruland played in only 18 games for the Sixers, but he’s certainly one of the first names that comes to mind when you think about athletes who’ve played in both Philly and D.C. After five very good years with the Bullets in which he averaged 18.7 points and 10.8 rebounds and made two All-Star teams, Ruland was traded to the Sixers in 1986 in the deal that sent Moses Malone (and Terry Catledge) to Washington. But he played in only five games before retiring because of foot and knee injuries. Five years later, Ruland returned to the NBA and played 13 games for the 76ers as a reserve. He retired a year later after playing a few games for the Pistons.
