Remember that time the Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl? Remember Nick Foles? That was fun. Remember how they fell short in an attempted repeat in 2018? Not fun. Welp, let’s try again in 2019!
That’s basically the storyline of the first episode of NFL Films and Amazon Prime’s “All or Nothing: Philadelphia Eagles” that takes an up-close and behind-the-scenes look at the Eagles during to the 2019 season.
Spoiler: the Eagles fall short.
The first episode doesn’t spend much time on training camp with a brief look at DeSean Jackson and Carson Wentz working together for the first time.
“I want to throw it 70 yards to DeSean. Give the people what they want to see,” Wentz said.
That is the kind of behind-the-scenes moment that makes this show cool, but to be honest, there aren't enough of them.
DeSean going off in the season opener against the Redskins gives a brief flash of what could have been for the receiving corp. had injury not struck. But do you really want to spend 7 more episodes watching every single Eagle go into the blue injury tent over and over?
What the show has plenty of is Angelo Cataldi complaining about pretty much everything that happened during the season. Don’t get me wrong, Cataldi has legions of Philly fans who tune in to hear his gripes every morning on 94 WIP. I don't happen to be one of them. I'm not interested in looking back at the failed season through Angelo and his fellow sports talk radio hosts’ complaints.
Sadly, the series leans too heavily on those voices to tell the story of this past season instead of a sharper script from narrator Jon Hamm. Maybe that’s a story you’re interested in hearing again? Count me out. There are 8 total episodes available to stream on Prime right now. I wouldn't rush to add them to your queue.
