Banged-up Eagles add two corners to 53-man roster

The Eagles signed cornerback Kevon Seymour from the practice squad to the active roster and also elevated cornerback Jameson Houston and linebacker Rashad Smith from the practice squad to the active roster for Sunday's game against the Saints.

The Eagles just added Seymour to the practice squad on Dec. 2. They signed Smith to the practice squad on Nov. 2 and Houston on Nov. 25.

Seymour and Houston give the Eagles depth at corner, where they've been banged up. Craig James and Cre'Von LeBlanc are both on Injured Reserve, Darius Slay is dealing with a knee injury but is expected to play and Michael Jacquet is out for Sunday with a hamstring.

So the Eagles' corners Sunday will be Slay, Avonte Maddox, Nickell Robey-Coleman, Houston and Seymour.

Seymour, 27, has not played in a regular-season game since 2017. He was originally the Bills' 6th-round pick out of USC in 2016 (taken one pick before Will Parks) and played in 15 games with three starts as a rookie. The Panthers acquired Seymour in a trade just before the 2017 season, and he played in two games in 2017.

Houston and Smith will both be making their NFL debuts. Smith is a 6-1, 220-pound undrafted rookie linebacker out of Florida Atlantic, and Houston is a 5-11, 200-pound undrafted rookie out of Baylor.

Houston and Smith will become the 23rd and 24th Eagles to make their NFL debut this year. Nineteen of those 24 are rookies and 11 are undrafted.

The Eagles also formally placed Jason Peters on Injured Reserve, the third time in the last four years his season has ended on IR. He's expected to undergo toe surgery in the coming weeks.

Peters joins Andre Dillard, Lane Johnson and Sua Opeta as the fourth offensive lineman on IR. Brandon Brooks is out for the year on the PUP list.
