Five Eagles were named on the NFL Network’s Top 100 list this season and franchise quarterback Carson Wentz was not one of them.
And guess what?
Former NFL quarterback and ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky was not happy about it.
As his media career has taken off, Orlovsky has been a noted fan of Wentz’s game, so the fact that he wasn’t happy about this snub was not a surprise.
Orlovsky explained the very imperfect voting process for NFL players to compile the list from his own experience but then went in on the actual results of the 2020 list.
“But for the sake of the stupidity of this, I brought glasses,” Orlovsky said. “Because apparently anybody who voted for this list needs glasses because you need to watch some tape to realize what good players look like and what bad players look like.”

In total, there are 13 quarterbacks who made it into the Top 100 this season:
90. Kyler Murray
87. Josh Allen
68. Ryan Tannehill
58. Kirk Cousins
46. Dak Prescott
43. Jimmy Garoppolo
20. Deshaun Watson
16. Aaron Rodgers
14. Tom Brady
12. Drew Brees
In the top 10 yet to be named: Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, Russell Wilson.
Earlier this offseason, when I did my rankings of all 32 starting NFL quarterbacks, I had Wentz at No. 7, which is arguable, but he’s around that spot. There are seven quarterbacks on the NFL Network Top 100 I think he’s better than right now.
(By the way, Matt Stafford and Matt Ryan are also notable snubs from the Top 100 this year.)
It’s worth noting that a lot of this player voting was probably done before Wentz guided the Eagles to four straight wins down the stretch to win the NFC East and head into the playoffs. But it’s crazy that two years ago, he was No. 3 on this list, last year he was No. 96 and now he’s off the list completely.
Orlovsky made that point while looking at Wentz’s numbers:
2017: 13 games, 60.2%, 33 TD, 7 INT
2018: 11 games, 69.6%, 21 TD, 7 INT
2019: 16 games, 63.9%, 27 TD, 7 INT
The obvious difference here is that in 2017, the Eagles were 11-2 under Wentz and he was on his way to becoming the MVP of the league before he tore his ACL in Los Angeles.
But still, Wentz should have been in the Top 100 and Orlovsky was right to tee off.
