Report: Carson Wentz hasn't been ruled out for Week 2, but Week 3 return ‘more realistic'

Before Thursday’s opener, there was a slightly pessimistic report on Carson Wentz’s health from NFL Network.

The report said that Wentz might not be ready to return to game action for “several weeks,” which would take us into October.

Here’s a more positive report just a few days later:

The important thing to note is that Wentz hasn’t yet been cleared for contact, which is his last hurdle before he can play. That’s the reason he didn’t play in Week 1.

The Eagles play the Bucs next week on the road and are home against the Colts the following week. Mort says Week 3 is “more realistic.” Wentz failed to reach his goal of playing in Week 1, but seemed to take it in stride last week. He’s been supportive of Nick Foles, who will be the starter until Wentz is ready to return.

Watching Wentz in practice, it certainly seems like he’s close to being ready, but you’ll understand if the Eagles are exceptionally conservative with the health of their franchise quarterback, who they hope will be playing for them for the next decade.

Tomorrow is the nine-month anniversary of when Wentz tore his ACL and LCL in Los Angeles on Dec. 10. He’s come a long way since then.
