Dallas Cowboys reportedly adding Pro Bowl rusher Everson Griffen

The Cowboys' defensive line just got a lot more dangerous.

And the Andre Dillard hot seat got a lot hotter.

Everson Griffen, a four-time Pro Bowl edge rusher over the last decade with the Vikings, has agreed to contract terms with the Cowboys, according to NFL Network.

Griffen had 74 1/2 sacks in 10 seasons in Minnesota. Since becoming a full-time starter in 2014, his 57.0 sacks are 9th-most in the NFL.

For virtually all of his tenure with the Vikings - which began under one-time Eagles assistant coach Leslie Frazier - Griffen has lined up on the defensive right side, the quarterback’s blind side, which means he faces the opposing left tackle.

In the Eagles' case, that would be Dillard.

Dillard, the Eagles' 2019 first-round pick, started three games at left tackle last year and one game at right tackle but goes into 2020 as the projected starter at left tackle following a decade of Jason Peters.

In four career regular-season games against the Eagles, Griffen does not have a sack. He faced Peters in all four. He also went sackless in the 2017 NFC Championship Game facing Halapoulivaati Vaitai.

Griffen made Pro Bowls after the 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019 seasons.

Griffen joins a loaded Cowboys defensive front that already includes Demarcus Lawrence and Tyrone Crawford outside and Gerald McCoy and Dontari Poe inside and Aldon Smith back after a long layoff.

Lawrence has 30 sacks over the last three years and is a two-time Pro Bowler, although he only had 5.0 sacks last year. McCoy, a six-time Pro Bowler, has 59 1/2 career sacks, fourth-most among active NFL interior linemen.

Griffen and McCoy are two of nine active NFL players with at least five sacks in each of the last eight seasons.

Poe, a two-time Pro Bowler, has 20 1/2 sacks, and Crawford has 23 sacks in five years as a starter.

The Cowboys also get former all-pro edge rusher Aldon Smith back after a four-year absence. Smith had 47 1/2 sacks from 2011 through 2015, including 19 1/2 in 2012.

The Cowboys' 2019 sack leader, Robert Quinn, who had 11 1/2, is now with the Bears.

The Cowboys have had three or fewer sacks in their last 10 games against the Eagles, recording just 18 sacks in those 10 games.

The Eagles and Cowboys are scheduled to face each other on Nov. 1 at the Linc and Dec. 27 in Texas.
