Derek Barnett ruled out; Eagles make roster moves for Sunday

In addition to activating DeSean Jackson off Injured Reserve on Saturday, the Eagles also announced a bunch of other roster moves:

  • Derek Barnett (calf) did not travel with the team to Texas and has been downgraded to out for Sunday’s game against the Cowboys.
  • DE Josh Sweat (shoulder) and CB Kevon Seymour (knee) have been placed on IR, ending their seasons unless the Eagles make it past the first round of the playoffs.
  • DT T.Y. McGill and TE Caleb Wilson have been promoted to the active roster from the practice squad.
  • RB Jordan Howard and DE Joe Ostman have been elevated from the practice squad for this game.

It’s worth nothing that while Barnett did not travel, Fletcher Cox (neck) and Cameron Johnston (concussion) did. That’s a good sign for their availability in this game.

Barnett must have injured his calf during Friday’s practice. He was limited on Friday and that was the first time he appeared on the injury report this week.

Without Barnett and Sweat, expect Genard Avery and Ostman to get some playing time against the Cowboys. Avery hasn’t played much recently and Ostman has been active just one other time in his NFL career.

The Cowboys have one of the worst run defenses in the league, so there’s a chance Howard might see several carries on Sunday.

Wilson will be the Eagles’ third tight end since Richard Rodgers (ankle) has already been ruled out.
