Doug Pederson updates Carson Wentz's lower-body injury

Doug Pederson on Tuesday afternoon said Carson Wentz’s lower body injury is nothing to worry about.

Wentz was a spectator at Tuesday’s practice. He wore his jersey and a bucket hat. He took some snaps during warmups but didn’t participate in the actual practice.

It sounds like Wentz might not practice all week as the team rests him up for the opener on Sept. 13 in Washington. But Pederson said his quarterback will be ready to go for Week 1.

“Obviously what Carson is working through right now is nothing major,” Pederson said. “It’s minor, it’s day to day. This is actually a good time for this week to rest. As you guys know, if we played a game on Thursday, a preseason game, he wouldn’t play this week anyway. We’ll hold him back.

“This is really a good time for him to really rest and for the majority of our starters to rest and prepare themselves for next week. I have no issues with where Carson is and where he’s headed. He’ll be ready to go.”

That matches the early word on Wentz’s injury: That it’s a soft tissue injury and the Eagles are just being cautious with their franchise quarterback. They expect him to be ready for the season opener in 12 days in Washington. Wentz did not participate in Sunday’s scrimmage at Lincoln Financial Field.

There was some good news from Tuesday as rookie receiver Quez Watkins returned from an upper body injury that forced him to miss the last couple of practices.

Official word from the Eagles is that Jalen Reagor (upper body injury) is week to week. NBC Sports Philadelphia’s John Clark reported that Reagor has a small tear in his shoulder that won’t require surgery, but he’s expected to miss the beginning of the season. Reagor got hurt at the scrimmage on Sunday at the Linc.

The whole group not practicing today: Reagor (upper), Lane Johnson (lower), Miles Sanders (lower), Vinny Curry (lower), Javon Hargrave (upper), Genard Avery (lower), Andre Dillard (upper), Quez Watkins (upper), Derek Barnett (lower).

The Eagles have been using “upper body” and “lower body” to describe injuries during training camp. Once they make final cuts and get into a real game week, they’ll be required by the league to give more detailed injury reports.

During the offensive install portion of practice, Jason Peters was again taking reps at right guard. The only change was that rookie Jack Driscoll was next to him at right tackle instead of Jordan Mailata.
