The Eagles' trade for Darius Slay was meant to shore up the team's consistently disappointing cornerback corps by adding an All-Pro-level CB to the secondary.
But it also seems to be bringing an extra leader's voice to the locker room.
Slay, 29, is a frequent social media user, and on Sunday night - while most Philadelphia sports fans were wrestling with the Sixers' up-and-down loss to the Blazers - he fired off a tweet that should make Eagles fans excited about his role with the team.
Because it sounds like Slay is *extremely* pleased to be an Eagle:
Loving my new teammates... these boys lit!!— Darius Slay (@bigplay24slay) August 10, 2020
That's pretty awesome.
And then rookie wideout Jalen Reagor responded with his own endorsement of the Eagles' bonding:
It’s lit always big brada! https://t.co/9xo6oeuC1d— Reag (@jalenreagor) August 10, 2020
And Slay replied in kind:
I swear it is🙏🏾💪🏾 https://t.co/ZnZFC6laOj— Darius Slay (@bigplay24slay) August 10, 2020
You love to see it.
Now, it's obviously much easier to be positive about your team and your teammates before the season starts, when everything makes sense on paper and you feel like a Super Bowl contender. We'll see if things remain this rosy when the games start, and one side of the ball falters in a loss.
But for now, this is an encouraging sign. Seeing a veteran player like Slay come into Philadelphia and immediately endear himself to the organization, to his teammates, and to the fanbase has been awesome. He's clearly excited about the change of scenery, and ready to win.
And for Reagor to be glued to what Slay is saying and doing, it's always good for a young gun to learn from a guy who plays at the highest level.
Eagles season is roughly a month away, and can't get here fast enough.
