Eagles enter new phase of training camp that includes practices

Share

After two weeks of testing and acclimatization, the Eagles will hold their first practice of training camp today … sort of.

The Eagles are leaving the Acclimatization Period and are entering the Gradual Ramp Up Period of the NFL’s COVID-19 training camp schedule. This is where training camp starts to look like a real training camp.

This new period goes from Aug. 12-16. Here are some important notes about the Gradual Ramp Up Period:

• The Eagles are allowed to practice, but these are all non-padded practices. Think about what they do normally during OTAs or very light days during a normal training camp.

• There is a maximum on-field limit of 3 1/2 hours. The first practice begins at 90 minutes and can increase up to 15 minutes per day up to a maximum of 120 minutes.

• The rest of the 3 1/2 hours after practice counts toward walkthrough time.

• Today and tomorrow, it’s all Phase 2 activities, which means helmets and approved protective shirts (no shells). From Aug. 14-16, the Eagles will be allowed to practice with helmets, spider pads and shells. But there’s still no contact.

• Aug. 15 is a scheduled off day.

After the Gradual Ramp Up Period comes the Contact Integration Period from Aug. 17-Sept. 16. So next Monday (Aug. 17) will be the first day the Eagles are allowed to have padded practices. That will also be the first time media members and reporters will be allowed to observe practice.

The season is scheduled to begin on Sept. 13 in Washington.
