Former Steelers' scouting director to join Eagles

The Eagles, who lost vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl to the Steelers earlier this week, are hiring Steelers pro scouting coordinator Brandon Hunt, a league source confirmed to NBC Sports Philadelphia.

The news was first reported by Geoff Mosher of Inside the Birds.

The Eagles interviewed Hunt earlier this month and when the Steelers bypassed Hunt and hired Omar Khan as general manager – a position Hunt interviewed for twice – and then hired Weidl away from the Eagles as assistant GM, it seemed inevitable that Hunt’s days in Pittsburgh were ending.

No word yet what title Hunt will hold with the Eagles, but former NFL Network reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala reported earlier this week that Hunt “could be in line” for a vice president title.

Hunt also interviewed with the Raiders and Bills for front office positions this offseason.

Hunt first joined the Steelers in 2005 as an intern working under then-GM Tom Donahoe before spending the 2007 through 2009 seasons in a full-time role with the Texans. He returned to Pittsburgh in 2010 as pro scouting director under Kevin Colbert.

It was Colbert’s decision to retire after this past draft that set into motion all these moves.

Since the end of the season, the Eagles have lost co-directors of player personnel Ian Cunningham and Brandon Brown to assistant GM positions with the Bears and Giants, vice president of football operations Catherine Raîche to an assistant GM post with the Browns and Weidl to an assistant GM job with the Steelers.

Additionally, the 75-year-old Donahoe, who was serving as senior football adviser, also stepped away.

So far, the Eagles have promoted vice president of football operation and compliance Jon Ferrari to an assistant GM spot, according to Kinkhabwala; they’ve hired Browns national scout Charles Walls as director of player personnel according to ESPN; and now they’ve added Hunt in an unknown role.
