Eagles inactives: Carson Wentz, Alshon Jeffery out; Birds keep 7 active OL

It's almost time for kickoff of the 2018 season!

First, though, here are the Eagles' inactive players for Thursday night's season opener against the Falcons:

Carson Wentz
Alshon Jeffery
Jordan Mailata
Matt Pryor
Chance Warmack
Josh Sweat

With Mailata, Warmack and Pryor down, the Eagles have seven offensive linemen active. The starting five, "Big V" and Isaac Seumalo.

Wentz, Jeffery and Mack Hollins were all ruled out for this game in Tuesday's injury report.

On Friday afternoon, Hollins (groin) was placed on IR, so he’s off the roster (see story). Hollins doesn’t need to be included on the inactive list; that’s why there are just six names tonight.

Doug Pederson said Hollins had a minor setback this week and the team elected to hold him out of this game. It turns out it was more than minor. Pederson also said this injury was unrelated to sports hernia surgery Hollins had in the offseason.

Wentz (knee) is obviously the biggest omission from the starting lineup. He's still not cleared for contact and because of that, isn't playing the season opener. That had been his goal all offseason, but he fell short. At least he took the news in stride this week (see story)

Even though Wentz isn’t playing, he did get in a workout during warmups.

Jeffery (shoulder) is still recovering from offseason rotator cuff surgery and didn't practice this week. Jeffery played all of last season with a torn rotator cuff, so the trade-off of him missing a few games to start this year, isn't ideal, but it's a good trade-off for winning a Super Bowl.

It looks like Jeffery is on the road to recovery.

While everyone was excited about Mailata's play in the preseason, he's still not ready for real game action. He'll be inactive for at least several games at the beginning of the season.
