Eagles inactives: Lane Johnson playing tonight vs. Giants

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Lane Johnson (ankle) is active and will play Thursday night against the Giants.

Johnson was downgraded to questionable earlier this morning because of that high ankle sprain. He has had just a few days to recover thanks to the quick turnaround.

The Eagles really had just one day of practice this week and it came on Tuesday. Johnson was limited in that practice.

If Johnson couldn’t go, Halapoulivaati Vaitai would have started at right tackle. He’ll need to be ready if Johnson can’t finish the game. This also means the Eagles have both tackles playing through injury. Jason Peters is still struggling with that quad injury.

Here’s the full list of Eagles inactive players:

Darren Sproles (hamstring)
Haloti Ngata (calf)
Nate Gerry (ankle, knee)
Corey Graham (hamstring)
D.J. Alexander (quad)
Jordan Mailata
Matt Pryor

The first five players were ruled out Wednesday.

Sproles hasn’t played since Week 1 with a hamstring injury he suffered in practice. On Wednesday, Doug Pederson said Sproles is getting “close.” Maybe he’ll be back next week.

This will be Ngata’s second missed game. Destiny Vaeao will start again at defensive tackle in his absence.

Without Graham, who injured his hamstring in the Vikings game, the Eagles will be light at safety. Avonte Maddox is the starter next to Malcolm Jenkins, but then they have just Deiondre’ Hall and Tre Sullivan, who was just brought up from the practice squad.

A little interesting that with health concerns on the offensive line, Pryor and Mailata are still inactive. Chance Warmack is active. Nate Sudfeld is active as a third-string quarterback.
