Sanders misses practice for 2nd straight day

The Eagles were without one of their key offensive players for the second straight day of practice. And now it appears that Miles Sanders (knee) is in serious danger of missing Sunday Night Football against the Cowboys.

The good news from Thursday is that Lane Johnson (ankle, knee) was limited.

Here’s the full injury report from Thursday’s practice:

Did not practice: Miles Sanders (knee), Alshon Jeffery (calf), Jack Driscoll (ankle), Nate Gerry (ankle), Craig James (hamstring), Genard Avery (elbow), Vinny Curry (illness)

Limited: Lane Johnson (ankle, knee), Malik Jackson (quad), Cre’Von LeBlanc (quad)

Full: K’Von Wallace (neck)

That list doesn’t include Dallas Goedert (ankle), Jason Peters (foot), Jalen Reagor (thumb), T.J. Edwards (hamstring) or Rudy Ford (hamstring). All five of those players continued practicing on Thursday but they are still technically on Injured Reserve so they don’t appear on the injury report. They would need to be activated by Saturday to play Sunday.

There’s real hope that Reagor will be back for the first time since suffering a UCL injury in Week 2. And Goedert spoke to reporters on Thursday and said there’s a chance he’s back too.

Sanders suffered a knee injury during that long run against the Ravens and missed last week’s game against the Giants. It looks like he’ll be able to make his return after the bye week when the Eagles play the Giants again.

If Sanders is out this week, Boston Scott will make his second straight start. Scott had 46 yards rushing and 46 yards receiving, including the game-winning touchdown, against the Giants last week. He’ll have a big opportunity this week against the Cowboys and their 32nd-ranked run defense.

The Eagles are hoping to get Peters back this week so if Johnson can’t play, they will likely play Peters at left tackle and slide Jordan Mailata to right tackle. That would give the Eagles their seventh different offensive line combination in eight weeks. It’s a good sign that Johnson was limited on Thursday after missing Wednesday’s practice.

Gerry has now missed the first two practices of this week and is in danger of missing this coming game. So the Eagles will get Edwards back but might be without Gerry.
