Eagles send another cornerback to the injured list

Eagles Insider

The Eagles placed cornerback Cre’Von LeBlanc on Injured Reserve Tuesday with a high ankle sprain and opened the practice window for edge rusher Genard Avery.

LeBlanc got hurt when he slipped on the wet turf during the third quarter of the Eagles-Browns game at FirstEnergy Stadium Sunday in Cleveland.

It’s been a strange year for LeBlanc, who was briefly released before the season and has seen his playing time range from three snaps in the opener to 59 snaps against the Bengals. He played only 29 snaps in the last two games.

LeBlanc will have to miss at least three games, which makes him eligible to return for the Week 15 game against the Cards on Dec. 20 in Glendale, Arizona.

With Craig James on Injured Reserve for at least two more weeks, the Eagles have starters Darius Slay and Avonte Maddox at corner along with Nickell Robey-Coleman and recent practice squad call-up Michael Jacquet.

The Eagles have two DBs on the practice squad — undrafted rookies Grayland Arnold of Baylor and Elijah Riley of Army.

Avery spent the last four weeks on IR with an elbow injury. The Eagles have 21 days to either activate him to the 53-man roster or shut him down for the rest of the season.

Avery, who the Eagles acquired from the Browns in exchange for a fourth-round pick in a trade deadline deal last year, has played just 68 snaps all season after playing 33 in eight games after joining the Eagles last year. He has 1 1/2 sacks and six QB hits this year, five of the hits in the 49ers win.
