Eagles' Jalen Mills issues apology after arrest last weekend

Three days after he was arrested outside of a Washington, D.C. nightclub for disorderly affray, Eagles cornerback Jalen Mills has issued an apology.

Mills was arrested near 3 a.m. on Saturday morning after a fight with professional basketball player Devin Robinson, with whom the Wizards cut ties in the wake of the incident.

Mills posted the following message on his official Instagram account on Tuesday afternoon:

“In response to the events that took place last weekend, I want to sincerely apologize to the Philadelphia Eagles organization, my coaches, teammates and my fans. I can assure you this will not happen again.”

As of Saturday afternoon, the Eagles had released their stock statement: We’re involved, gathering info, etc.

We still don’t know all the details about this incident, but according to the police report obtained by NBC Sports Philadelphia, both men were arrested after getting into a fight outside the Opera Nightclub following a Wizards party. There were also reports that the fight started with Robinson’s taking exception to Mills’ presence in the area because Mills doesn’t play for a Washington sports team.

NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Derrick Gunn reported Mills paid a small fine and was released.

This is the first known legal trouble Mills has been in since he joined the Eagles in 2016 as a seventh-round pick. At the time, many thought he fell to the seventh round because of a 2014 battery of a woman charge that was later reduced to a misdemeanor and eventually dropped when he entered a diversion program. Mills has always denied those allegations.

Mills, 25, has started 25 games and has played in 39 since being drafted three years ago. His starting spot isn’t guaranteed coming into this season, the final year of his four-year rookie contract.
