Eagles getting several key players back at practice this week

It’s Dallas Week and the Eagles are getting healthier.

On Monday morning, the Eagles activated 21-day practice windows for the following players on Injured Reserve: Jalen Reagor, Jason Peters, T.J. Edwards and Rudy Ford.

This doesn’t necessarily mean these players will be ready to play against the Cowboys on Sunday Night Football but it certainly gives them a shot. If any of them are ready, the Eagles will need to add them to the active 53-man roster by 4 p.m. on Saturday.

According to the new rules in 2020, players need to spend just three weeks (they must miss three games) on IR before they are eligible to return.

It’s important to note that just because the practice windows will open on Wednesday, there’s no guarantee these players will be ready to play on Sunday against the Cowboys. They remain on IR until a decision is made. Within three weeks, the Eagles will have to decide whether to activate them or put them on IR for the rest of the season.

There appears to be some hope that the Eagles will get their first-round pick for Sunday’s game:

Here’s more on all of these players individually:

-Reagor, 21, hasn’t played since Week 2 against the Rams. Back on Sept. 20, the first-round receiver tore the UCL in his thumb and needed surgery. The Eagles put him on IR on Sept. 30. The initial hope was that Reagor would be ready after the bye week, but he’s apparently healing quicker.

Remember, during training camp, Reagor suffered a tear in his shoulder that was supposed to keep him out for the first couple weeks of the season but was able to return for the season opener. So he has proven he can heal quicker than some.

-Peters, 38, was put on IR with a foot injury after the Bengals game on Sept. 27. In his place, Jordan Mailata has filled in at left tackle. In recent weeks, Doug Pederson hasn’t committed to putting Peters back at left tackle upon his return. So maybe there’s a chance Mailata will stay at left tackle and Peters will take over one of the guard spots.

-T.J. Edwards (hamstring) was injured in the 49ers game. In his place, Alex Singleton has gotten more playing time and has played well. So it’ll be interesting to see how Jim Schwartz handles Edwards’ return. Will Singleton continue to get snaps or will he head back to the bench? Or will we see a four-man linebacker rotation with Nate Gerry, Duke Riley, Edwards and Singleton?

-Ford (hamstring) was also injured in the 49ers game. While Ford doesn’t play a role on defense at all, he is a key special teamer. He’s a really good gunner and he was playing at a high level this season before the injury.
