Howard, Slay exit in second half with injuries

The Eagles finished Sunday's 40-29 win without Jordan Howard and Darius Slay.

Slay exited the game in the second half and is now in the NFL's concussion protocol. He was replaced by rookie fourth-round rookie Zech McPhearson.

Howard suffered a knee injury in the third quarter against the Saints and was initially questionable to return. The Eagles then ruled him out early in the fourth quarter.

Howard was injured on a run in the third quarter. He was checked out on the field by medical personnel before walking to the sideline and into the blue popup tent. But he never went to the locker room; Howard instead stayed on the sideline, which is a good sign.

Without Howard, the Eagles still had Miles Sanders and Boston Scott available in the game. Rookie Kenny Gainwell was inactive.

Even with Sanders back, Howard before his injury was the Eagles’ most effective runner.

In this game, Howard has 10 carries for 63 yards. On one drive, he ran up the middle of the middle of the defense on five straight plays.
