Eagles in line to get top 5 pick from Dolphins

Eagles

We’ve spent a lot of time the last few months talking about the draft pick the Eagles are going to get from the Colts.

There’s some obvious intrigue there because Carson Wentz needs to play a certain percentage of snaps for that pick to become a first-rounder. (He’s on track).

But the Eagles’ other pick, the one from the Dolphins, is looking like a very good one.

If the season ended today, that first-rounder from the Dolphins (1-5) would be No. 3 overall. And the Eagles are in line to have three top 10 picks in 2022.

Here’s the latest look at the top 10, via Tankathon:

As a reminder, the Eagles got the Dolphins’ 2022 first-round pick when they traded down from No. 6 to No. 12 in the 2021 draft. The Eagles eventually traded back up from 12 to 10 to draft DeVonta Smith.

The Dolphins used that No. 6 pick on Smith’s Alabama teammate Jaylen Waddle. In six games this season, Waddle has 37 catches for 301 yards and 3 touchdowns. Smith has 27/345/1.

But the Dolphins have lost five straight after winning their season opener against the Patriots. They lost on Sunday morning to the Jaguars in London on a last-second field goal. The Jags were previously winless and riding a 20-game losing streak heading into that game.

So will this Dolphins pick remain a top 5 pick?

Well, the Dolphins schedule doesn’t look very tough the rest of the season … but after losing to the Jaguars, they could lose to anyone.

Of the Dolphins’ 11 remaining games, just four come against teams with winning records.

Coming into the season, the Dolphins’ strength of schedule was .463 but their remaining strength of schedule in 2021 is .426 (26-35) and four of their remaining games come against fellow one-win teams.

Week 7: vs. Atlanta (2-3)

Week 8: at Buffalo (4-1)

Week 9: vs. Houston (1-5)

Week 10: vs. Baltimore (5-1)

Week 11: at Jets (1-4)

Week 12: vs. Panthers (3-3)

Week 13: vs. Giants (1-5)

Week 14: BYE

Week 15: vs. Jets (1-4)

Week 16: at New Orleans (3-2)

Week 17: at Tennessee (3-2)

Week 18: vs. Patriots (2-4)

The Eagles haven’t had a top 5 pick since 2016, when they traded up to get Wentz. And they have made just four top 10 picks since 2000.

The Eagles haven’t made two picks in the top 10 of the same draft since 1973, when they took Jerry Sisemore at No. 3 and Charle Young at No. 6. The Eagles have never made three picks in the top 10 in the same draft.
