Eagles announce 16 players on their practice squad

The Eagles on Sunday announced the signing of 16 players to their practice squad. 

This year, practice squads were expanded to 16 players and six of those players can be veterans. The Eagles will have 17 players on their practice squad, including Matt Leo, who gets an international exemption. So the Eagles have one spot still open.

Here are the players who are reportedly joining their practice squad: 

QB Josh McCown 

Yes, that Josh McCown. The Eagles are signing McCown to their PS, but he'll continue to live in Texas as their emergency QB, a league source confirmed to NBC Sports Philadelphia. The 41-year-old becomes the oldest practice squad player ever. 

WR Deontay Burnett 

The Eagles added Burnett, the USC product, to their practice squad last December and then he made a huge 41-yard catch in the regular season finale. Burnett can play. And he showed that this training camp, when he made spectacular catch after spectacular catch. With the injuries the Eagles have at WR, there's a good chance Burnett might end up on the active roster and playing in Week 1. 

C Luke Juriga 

The Eagles gave the UDFA from Western Michigan the most money of all their undrafted free agents. The Eagles kept just eight offensive linemen on their active roster.

G Sua Opeta

The Eagles signed Opeta as a UDFA from Weber State last year and eventually promoted him to the active roster. He'll start this year on the PS.

DE Joe Ostman

Ostman had a terrific training camp, doing everything he could, but he still didn't make the Eagles' roster. He'll begin this season on the practice squad.

WR Travis Fulgham

The Eagles claimed Fulgham (6-2, 215) off waivers on Aug. 20 and he had some good moments in training camp. He’s a big-bodied receiver who uses that body well.

DB Grayland Arnold

The undrafted safety from Baylor had a good training camp and the Eagles have been high on him from the moment they brought him in. He packs a powerful punch as a hitter and had an impressive training camp for a rookie safety who had no OTAs.

RB Elijah Holyfield

The Georgia product went undrafted last year. After spending all year on the Panthers’ practice squad, the Eagles added him to their active roster for the short playoff run. He had a chance to make the 53-man roster but the Eagles kept just three running backs.

RB Adrian Killins

The UDFA from UCF had an impressive training camp. He’s undersized at 5-8, 177 pounds, but he’s one of the fastest players on the team. The Eagles used him in training camp as a running back, outside receiver and slot receiver. He’s versatile.

DB Elijah Riley

The safety from Army made some big plays this summer. There didn’t seem to be high expectations for him, but he was impressive.

RB Mike Warren

The UDFA from Cincinnati never got to showcase his hard-nosed running style this summer without preseason games. But his college tape shows how hard his legs can churn.

OT Prince Tega Wanogho

The Eagles cut their sixth-round pick from Auburn didn’t make the 53-man roster but they’re keeping him around. He was considered to be more of a project than fellow OL draft pick Jack Driscoll.

DT Raequon Williams

The UDFA from Michigan State had an impressive training camp and was able to move past Anthony Rush on the depth chart during training camp.

DB Trevor Williams

The former Penn State cornerback has significant NFL experience. He has played in 39 games with 27 starts with the Chargers and Cardinals.

TE Caleb Wilson

With Noah Togiai getting claimed on waivers, Wilson all of a sudden has a chance to get bumped up to the active roster. Wilson was the last overall pick in the 2019 draft.

*DE Matt Leo

Leo is an international exemption as a part of the player pathway program. The giant Australian has great size but is obviously raw. He doesn’t take up an official practice squad spot.
