Eagles sign promising cornerback to futures contract

The Eagles on Friday afternoon signed cornerback Kevon Seymour to a futures contract, adding a new chapter to his incredible story.

Seymour, 27, joined the Eagles practice squad in early December and with injuries in the secondary was promoted to the active roster just 10 days later.

After even more injuries, Seymour was thrust into action against the Saints and the Cardinals before landing on IR himself.

While he was beaten for a long touchdown by Emmanuel Sanders, Seymour held his own in that Saints game and showed some fight. Those snaps against the Saints were his first since playing for the Panthers in 2017.

In 2016, Seymour played in 15 games with three starts for the Bills, who drafted him in the 6th round out of USC. In 2017, he was traded to Carolina and played in 16 games with two starts for the Panthers.

He showed some promise in his first two NFL seasons.

From there, though, injuries piled up and he missed the entire 2018 and 2019 seasons. Before the Eagles signed him, he was living in Charlotte working at the Wheel & Tire Exchange.

He’s an easy gut to root for.

How does Seymour figure into the Eagles’ plans in the secondary? It’s way too early to know but he’ll at least have a shot to fight for a roster spot in the spring and summer.
