Eagles sign TE Anthony Denham, who might have a shot at making roster

The Eagles will have a full 90 men on their roster when they take the field for their final preseason game on Thursday against the Jets.

The Birds signed tight end Anthony Denham on Tuesday. He’ll have a quick turnaround before being in game action Thursday.

It’s not a huge surprise. The Eagles are going to need tight ends for this game and Denham already knows Doug Pederson’s offense, having been here on the practice squad in 2016 and last summer.

With Richard Rodgers’ knee injury … this could possibly be more than a body for the last game. The Eagles certainly do need a body for that last game because Rodgers and Josh Perkins won’t play because of injury and Zach Ertz won’t play because he’s a starter. It’s also possible Dallas Goedert might not see much time either. That would leave just two other tight ends.

But if the Eagles are concerned about Rodgers’ health, it would make sense for them to bring four tight ends on the roster. Perkins has been hurt and Billy Brown and Gannon Sinclair haven’t stuck out. Perhaps the late addition, Denham, could actually make the roster.

We’ll see.

After Thursday’s game, the Eagles will probably start cutting players Friday. They need to be down to 53 players by 4 p.m. on Saturday.
